Dr Nithiananthini Kumarawel
Dr. Nithiananthini Kumarawel is an Assistant Director and Digital Education Policy Expert with 19 years of experience at the Ministry of Education (MoE), Malaysia. She holds a Ph.D. in Education (Educational Technology) and specializes as an Instructional Strategist, EdTech Specialist, and Learning Sciences expert.
Her policy work is foundational to Malaysia's digital transformation, highlighted by her involvement in developing and officially launching the Digital Education Policy (DEP) in November 2023. She is responsible for monitoring all DEP strategic projects until 2030.
Crucially, Dr. Nithiananthini has extensive involvement in the National AI Roadmap 2.0** for the education sector. Her recent projects, which formulate the MoE's AI-Powered initiative, include developing the AI Literacy Guideline for Teachers and Students and a model for an AI-Powered Classroom. This work directly integrates education into the national AI strategy, ensuring that human skills development is central to Malaysia's AI future.
Additionally, she leads the Digital Outreach Program, which focuses on digital equity by providing professional support and integrating technology, such as smartboards and tablets, to digitally disadvantaged groups in rural schools.
