Spreading Outbreak Information in Open and Accessible Ways
26.11.2025, 03:00–03:45 o'clock (Europe/Berlin), Orange Room

This session was recorded by the session owner.

Interdisciplinary seminar-style courses allow participants to share perspectives and learn from different disciplines. When a textbook is not accessible to all or the subject matter is evolving, students can research topics and create case studies that their peers can learn from. The HON 312 Outbreak course at NC State engaged students in co-creating OER case studies describing recent outbreaks of public health concern. Students familiarized themselves with the outbreak's source and impact through asynchronous activities. In the fall of 2024, groups were tasked with writing sections of an outbreak investigation. All worked on concept maps, graphics, and questions. Groups created final case studies, which we posted on the Learn Gala public platform. The fall 2025 cohort is using the Learn Gala case studies to develop new ones. These resources are openly licensed, making them available for others to benefit from.
