Exploring AI in OER: Opportunities, Challenges and Key Learnings

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the educational landscape, offering new possibilities for creating, curating, and delivering Open Educational Resources (OER). This presentation explores the intersection of AI and OER, highlighting how academic librarians apply Gen-AI tools to support Open Educational Resources (OER) publishing and promote copyright awareness. Drawing on real-world examples and lessons learned, this presentation offers actionable insights for educators and academic leaders seeking to harness AI responsibly in open education.
This talk explores how (a) AI has been used to create images, generate podcast and video clips, (b) demonstrate how Gen-AI can improve efficiency and creativity in OER development; (c) discuss its impact on teaching, learning, and accessibility; and (d) present the challenges and limitations encountered, including issues of accuracy and reliability.

As Deputy Director of NTU Library’s Knowledge Services Division, he leads initiatives to deepen faculty engagement, advance Open Education, foster AI literacy to drive digital transformation, and enhance NTU’s research visibility through academic profile curation and innovative use of large language models.

My name is Bee-Eng and I am an Assistant Director with the Nanyang Technological University Library. My work area include publishing, promoting and all works related to OERs.

Oi May is a Senior Librarian with NTU Library’s Information Services Team. She organizes webinars on emerging trends in research and scholarly publishing and she also works with faculty to enhance the visibility of their NTU Academic Profiles. Prior to joining NTU Library’s Information Services Team, Oi May was an instructional librarian and had conducted library workshops for Humanities and Art, Design & Media students. She had also worked as a Humanities reference librarian when she was with the Advisory and Consultation Team.
